Migration to new company scheduled by: November 2025
Craft brokerage, not mass produced. The aim is exploring and developing better ways to utilize the immovable nature of land with the moving propensity of people.
Our office (a shed!) is intended to stud out our approach. Built on thrift and the family economy, the result is maximum efficiency with overhead and usage costs. For example, there are no property taxes here when an accessory structure is built without a permanent foundation. It has a multipurpose design, serving also as a roastery and roadside store, maximizing utility. Thus, permanent land is optimized with transient improvements.
The liberty is when the practice of the craft and vocation are decoupled from the need for short term income. Combined with self-funding, no investors, and no debt, the focus can reside on experimentation, quality, and utility.
Evidence of this is a willingness to work on solving problems that are commonly thought to be a waste of time.
"Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on the great waters, they see the works of the Lord,"
- Psalm 107: 23-24a
Behold, the Lord makes the earth empty and makes it waste, distorts its surface, and scatters abroad its inhabitants.
- Isaiah 24:1
...whereby our said people, inhabitants there, may be so religiously, peaceably, and civilly governed, as their good life and orderly conversation may win and incite the natives of [the country] to the knowledge and obedience of the only true God and Savior of mankind, and the Christian faith, which, in our royal intention and the adventurers’ free profession, is the principal end of this plantation.
-Charter of the Colony of the Massachusetts Bay in New England (1629), issued by King Charles I.
Whether you are rooting deeply or being uprooted, do it all to the glory of God.
Throughout history there has been migration and settlement. From preaching the Gospel, to fleeing wars, destruction, famine, and persecution, to seeking liberty, the locations where civilization flourishes changes. An attractive land today can easily be overthrown by God tomorrow. All land ultimately belongs to Christ.
In practice the ranking of a place is more complex than whether it is located in a 1st or 2nd world country. Every culture has some combination of virtues and vices.
Beneath any place is the land, the real estate. The property rights associated with real estate are taught as "a bundle of rights", the various benefits of ownership, the sum of which determines the value of the interest in the land.
Government rulers have always had a proclivity for taking sticks from this bundle. Acquire heavenly treasure, because private property ownership rights can be destroyed by moths and rust, or stolen by thieves.
During COVID we caught a glimpse of how much can be decreed and taken, from; religious gathering restrictions, to "social distancing" in one's own house, to eviction moratoriums, to work restrictions. Therefore human flourishing involves both working one's current place, and comparative analysis of other places.
Relational, familial, cultural, linguistic, religious, legal, travel, knowledge, vendor, work, and financing barriers must be addressed. The consulting I provide is to help you work through that.
For man to be reconciled to God, he must migrate (fly) to Jesus Christ, and settle (be rooted and growing) in Him. Real estate, regardless of its features or location, ought to be put into service of Christ's kingdom, not made into an idol.
